Costa Rican Dental Solutions is always monitoring your progress with you and your dentist during your stay in Costa Rica. We’re here for any questions or concerns that may arise.

In Costa Rica, if a patient feels the dental provider is at fault either for poor dental treatment or negligence, the dentist will usually try to resolve the issue by offering subsequent treatment at no charge or by offering a partial or full refund.  If the dental provider and patient can’t come to a resolution, the patient can make a claim to the Colegio De Cirujanos Dentistas de Costa Rica (Costa Rican College of Dental Surgeons), the government body which oversees dentists in Costa Rica.  They act as an impartial mediator and will try to reconcile any issues between you and the dentist to ensure you are taken care of and satisfied with your treatment.  If the Colegio fails to reconcile the issue to your satisfaction, you have the option of suing the dentist in a court of law in Costa Rica.  This, similar to lawsuits in the U.S., can be quite costly and lengthy in time. Patients should also be aware that almost all dentists in Costa Rica carry no malpractice insurance.  Although this may cause patients to pause or question care here compared to dentistry in the U.S., we must emphasize that complications, the need to approach the Colegio or potentially sue a dentist, are VERY RARE.  Lower overhead costs and the absence of costly malpractice insurance passed onto patients in the form of higher treatment prices, are just two reasons why patients can expect to receive excellent treatment at a fraction of the cost compared to the United States.   If the Colegio determines the dentist is negligent, they can suspend the dentist from continuing to practice until the matter is resolved.  We’ve provided a link below to the Colegio where you can learn more about dentistry in Costa Rica.  Although it’s in Spanish, your browser, Google for example, usually has the ability to translate the website into English.
